Don't forget to deadhead your roses!

What have I been up to? Well, lots and lots of having people over, entertaining, fellowshipping.........
Extremely busy but happy and content.....................
And have barely had time to take photos................
The Dark Lady
Tips on Growing Beautiful Roses #4 : Roses need deadheading. Deadheading simply means cutting off the spent blooms to encourage new blooms. It shouldn't be confused with pruning which is cutting the plant down to 1/3 of its size in wintertime. It's all about where you want the energy to go to when it comes to roses. Often times if spent flowers are not deadheaded, the plant will use its energy to produce rosehips, which often happens in the autumn or winter. I find rosehips on some of my roses in summer when I haven't been deadheading them diligently. The result is less flowers! So the remedy is to cut off all spent flowers, you'll find new shoots appearing in two to three weeks, which should lead to more flowers. So have I been deadheading my roses? No! Not very consistently lately. Ah, well, will have to go and catch up now..............have a great day everyone, tata!

I am amazed by your incredibly beautiful roses! When I moved to my new home in San Diego, I "inherited" five "tree" roses (tea rose type) in various colors. I soon found out that I have a "black thumb." I can't seem to control aphids, and when we spray the roses, all the leaves shrivel up and die. I'm about ready to yank them out! Any tips, anyone?

Greetings Rosie, I have not been blogging very long but I have visited your site several times and am so in awe, that I am lost for words. I am finally having my say, heehee! I am a rose gardener too but against a lot of odds, I carry on and love it.

By judging your roses, it looks like you have all that it possibly can take, the great gardener in you that knows what she is doing and then I have to say, by the quantitiy of blooms on your roses, that you must ne fortunate to have a wonderful exposure. They are absolutely breath-taking and I have many questions but I wont bombard you by everything at once.

I just want to let you know that I am humbled by the beauty that you have created on your web site and am enjoying everything else, besides the roses too.

The food and presentations is amazing. I love those little heart shaped pies that you have made. They look like they could be an interesting appertizer, but then on the other hand, they could be a sweet little bite too. Could you please share what they are.

I will leave you for now and will add you to my blog, then it makes it easy for me to check on you regularly. :).......and of course I would be happy to have you.
Have a wonderful weekend! Thank you Rosie.
